Hello everyone and I am hoping that you are starting to enjoy your holiday weekend. My friend found out that she is pregnant today with a home pregnancy test and the doctor's offices are closed and she wants some insight from hopefully some people in the medical field on here of people who knows from their past pregnancy. Here are a list of the meds she is on. Let me know and I will pass along to her what she should stop taking now before she is able to talk to her obgyn:
*PERCOCET
*NORCO
*XANEX
*DITROPAN
*PROMETHAZINE
*FLEXERIL
*GLYCOPYRROLATE
*BUSPAR
*RISPERDAL
*LAMICTAL
*FAMCICLOVIR
*PRILOSEC
*AMITRIPTYLINE
~YOUR HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED =)

She should ring a drug information hot line and ask them if the Doctors offices are closed or ring the hospital and ask. She is on several types of antidepressants and pain relief meds, not forgetting to mention an epilepsy treatment, anti depression, anti anxiety, a med for bladder control and a muscle relaxant for spine problems. If she stopped taking any of those meds without Doctors advice it could be bad for her and her baby and yet if she continues to take some of those that she does not need it could be bad.

She really needs to see her Doctor or talk to one who can look at all of the drug packets and her medical history as they can determine what is the best course to take.

Most of those aren't really safe during pregnancy.. percocet and norco can be ok.. but not together b/c they both contain acetaminophen. Phenergan is ok, but i would recommend only taking half a tablet. But she REALLY needs to talk to her doctor because some you listed (amitriptyline, xanax, risperdal, buspar) are for anxiety/depression, and it could be dangerous for her to stop taking them without consulting the doc that prescribed them. The doctor will have to decide if the benefits of her taking the medication outweigh the risks, I don't know what conditions she has that require her to take so many medications, but if she really is on all of that, it's probably for a reason.

DO NOT STOP ANY OF THESE UNTIL SHE SEES HER DOCTOR!! This is really important. These medications are not something to just completely stop without a doctors recommendation. If she has been taking them up until now there is nothing more it will hurt the baby to continue until she see's the doctor. If she stops most of these she may hurt herself or the baby more. Please listen to this. It is not safe to stop them abruptly. I am on medications and am pregnant. I take Lamictal and know that one is safe but when I got pregnant I talked to my doctor before stopping anything and it's really really important your friend does the same. I have a lot of education and knowledge about this so please take this seriously. If you want call your local hospital and speak with a doctor or nurse before she stops anything if you need medical help.

she needs to stop taking all of them. the only thing i know for a fact she can continue to take is the percocet because that was perscribed to me with both of my pregnancies. everything else on the list needs to stop right away. if you would like to double check what i said then you can call your local hospital and ask them to transfer you to the health hotline. its a hotline where you can ask whatever medical question you have and they will tell you the answer. i use it everytime something is wrong with my kids or i. very helpful and reliable resource!! tell her i said congrats!!
