I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes about 2 weeks ago and have been monitoring my sugar levels for the last few days, since I got my meter. Anyway, over the last week, since I've started trying to follow the dietary guidelines laid out for me by my hospital, then the dietitian, I've had a few times when I was late eating and got hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) symptoms. Just fyi, I get extremely hungry, shaky, emotional and have trouble focusing. I looked it up tonight and those are all symptoms of hypoglycemia. I'm not on meds, so I'm trying to figure out just what's going on. Any ideas?

Your body cannot manage its own blood sugar levels when you have any type of diabetes. Because of it, you need to eat and take medication, which you know. But if you're usually on a dietary regime, when you fall off track a little - like eating late - your body responds to it.

Low blood sugar is caused by a lack of food, in essence. Your body is used to having the carbohydrates and sugars it needs at a certain time, so when you miss a meal or eat late, the correct among of sugar in your blood stream begins to drop off. This happens because the level of sugar you have maintained by eating at the right times is gone.

Hope that helps!

Yea, gestational diabetes sucks, and it is important to keep under control, otherwise you could end up with diabetes after the baby is born (as in, it won't go away). But at the same time, you need carbohydrates (sugars) to function, hence the low blood sugar/shakes etc.

I would suggest that you go back to your doctor with those symptoms and explain how you are feeling, because low blood sugar is not good either.

You could also be low on iron, (anaemia) can cause the same symptoms. I had some problems with this when I was pregnant and after I had our son. Try eating foods with more iron, spinach, red meat...but do not drink milk with these foods, because the calcium interferes with the uptake of iron.

Be sure you eat when you are hungry, that is important. Your body knows when you need to eat, if it tells you to eat, listen. Try and have some low carb snacks on you, even granola bars, crackers etc so that if you need to eat you can have something.

Were your sugar levels really high for the gestational diabetes test? Did you have large amounts of fruit or juice before you did the test? Sometimes it can result in a false negative.

Defiantly go back to your doctor though. It is important to get this under control.

Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Diabetes is among the most common disorders in the world today. Here are a few natural remedies that can be helpful in reducing the sugar levels in a diabetic patient https://tr.im/dwJzV

Despite various researches done and precautions taken, one cannot predict who will suffer from diabetes. Depending on the type and severity, every diabetic patient should be given medications.
