I had a growth scan yesterday, as my bump is only measuring 34cm :S and im 37 weeks pregnant. Everything was fine with the baby and shes growing well just good at playing hide and seek... but the scan tech commented that my placenta was a little mature. She didnt seem too concerned about it though, so i thought well i am 37 weeks its probably normal around this time. She showed me what she was talking about and there was little speckles of white in the placenta...I am not a smoker or anything. But after a bit of research online about calcification on the placenta I have totally freaked myself out, everyone who seems to have encountered this problem have been monitored closely, brought in early to be induced or had still birth :S!!! ..Im terrified right now as I wasnt told to come back for any appointments to monitor the placenta..just the one scheduled for 3 weeks if i havent already went into labour... im worried that the placenta will get worse and cause harm to my baby ?? ..What should i do ?

Third trimester placentas normally have a little calcification here and there. It's called a Grade 3 placenta. The amount varies with gestational age.

Your doctor/midwife may only be getting the results today or tomorrow, so I would NOT be stressing out right now. If the reading physian thought it was an issue, your doctor will know and tell you to come in or get another scan done.

Worrying about it does no good for you or the baby.

You need to call your midwife and express your concern about what you've been shown and then researched. She'll either put your mind at rest or arrange another scan

Why on earth didn't you ask more questions at the time?

Go see your doctor or speak to the midwife who's looking after you.
