Should you start when you find out you're pregnant? Or should you start when you start trying? My fiancee and I will be 24 when we get married Oct 31, 2008. We're thinking about trying for a baby right after we get married.

I would start taking the prenatal vitamins now, not just because you plan on starting a family but also because of the health benefits for you as well. I am a mother of three and I still take them to stay in good health. Believe me, with kids you need all the extra help you can get!

Well, it won't hurt you to take them any time - they're a good multivitamin. It really doesn't matter when you begin taking them (either before or as soon as you find out), although some would suggest that if you begin taking them prior to conception, you experience less mood swings and cramps due to vitamin depletion.
Personally, I started taking them when my husband and I started trying to conceive. The high influx of B vitamins and folic acid actually made me feel better on a daily basis.

My doctor recommended that I start them 3 months before I started trying to conceive and I did. We have been trying to conceive for 5 months and I am still on them so I have been on them for 8 months. The folic acid (the biggest reason for taking prenatals among others) builds in your system as you take them so the earlier you can take them the better. However, contrary to common belief they do NOT help you conceive. They just help in healthy fetal development once you do conceive. The build up of folic acid is the reason for the recommended 3 month cushion.

Start now!
They say that prenatal vitamins are great for women regardless of whether they are pregnant, trying to conceive or 60 years old!!
Congratulations and good Luck!

Start when you start trying. I had been taking prenatal vitamins for a few months before I started trying. the added folic acid and other vitamins will be good.

Start taking folic acid now. Its good for you and it will be good for the baby immediately after you get pregnant. Take it until you talk with your ob/gyn and they give you a prescription for prenatal vitamins. go ahead and stop the folic acid before taking the prenatal vitamins as they will also have folic acid in them.

You should start before you get pregnant. If you tell your doctor you are trying they will prescribe some for you. Your body needs a lot of nutrients when you are pregnant and some you need before pregnancy to insure a healthy baby. Good luck to you!

confident you may. in case you need, you may take 2 newborn's Flintstones supplementations an afternoon, as they are about a similar as a prenatal diet. Many medical doctors propose this to females who can not swallow or cope with the prenatal supplementations. eat the perfect you may, and sturdy success ;-)

My fertility specialist has told me to begin taking the prenatal vitamins while you are trying to conceive. It can't hurt you and I didn't have a hard time adjusting because I was already taking a multi vitamin. Congratualtions on the upcoming wedding. Good luck and God Bless.

I have read on some prenatal bottles that you can start before you are pregnant as all they do is make your body healthy, it wouldn't do any harm. I started taking mine once I found out I was pregnant but we weren't trying... Good luck to you!

It's a good idea to start taking them as soon as you start trying to get pregnant. I wasn't trying to get pregnant but as soon as I found out I was I started taking them immediately. Some women who aren't even trying to get pregnant take them just because they're good for you.

It's best to start taking them when you start trying to concieve. I started taking them as a precaution "in case I got pregnant", 7 months before we even concieved. My doctor said that was a VERY smart thing to do. They will NOT hurt you whatsoever by taking them a long time before having a baby.
The folic acid works its magic (with preventing spina bifida) BEFORE a baby is even concieved.
Good Luck~

ideally you should start BEFORE you're pregnant. That way your body has a buildup of all the vitamins, especially iron which is very important, right from the start! My doc prescribed them to me when I started trying to get prego. Good luck!

As ealry as you can. Doctors recommend taking folic acid at least 2 years before becoming pregnant to remove the risk of having a child with spina bifida.

You need to start as soon as possible. If you are planning the baby it's best if you start them before you get pregnant.

start taking them first it gives you a better chance of concieving plus you can guarantee your baby is getting all the nutrition they need straight away. they advise you to take folic acid before getting pregnant anyway. i started taking it from when i found out i was pregnant then swapped to pregnacare at 19 weeks but i wish i had started them from before i fell pregnant now. good luck.

I would start taking a good quality pregnancy multi the day you get married. Even if you get pregnant the first day of your honeymoon I'm sure it'll be sufficient. Most of us don't start taking them till a week after the stick turns blue.

If you are planning to get pregnant then start taking them now. I started when I got pregnant and because my body wasn't used to them and morning sickness, I didn't keep one down for the whole first trimester.

Start when you begin trying. I had them in my system for 5 months and once we got pregnant the doc said it was great that I'd already been doing it.

Take them as soon as you start trying to conceive. They help your body prepare for growing a baby.

It's OK to take them, but they are not cheap. You can take a regular multivitamin. The most important thing for you to be getting is folic acid, which you can buy over the counter as a supplement.

Start when your first trying to get pregnant. If your not trying to get pregnant, start taking them as soon as you find out your pregnant!

You should start taking the pre-natals when you find out you are pregnant. however you should start taking Folic Acid supplements now.

Anytime.
Ideally for a few months before you conceive, but if that didn't happen, as soon as you find out you are pregnant.
It's written on the bottle.

If it's a planned pregnancy, start taking them when you are trying to concieve.
Or, as soon as you find out you are pregnant, call your Dr. and they will call in a script for you.
