I went for an ultrasound at 10pm at night at the emergency room at 12 weeks and the babu had hiccups but all was normal, I went on Tuesday and had a scan "It's a boy" and all looked beautiful they said, but the baby had hiccups again. So I was wondering is this normal to have hiccups so much? I didn't put the 2 together until last night.Any ideas or knowledge on the subject?

Question: Is it normal for my baby to be hiccupping in the womb?

Answer: Yes. Fetal hiccupping is a normal phenomenon that's been felt by many pregnant women and has been observed on many an ultrasound. Your baby may have started hiccupping intermittently beginning in the late first or early second trimester, although you wouldn't have been able to feel the hiccups at that early stage.

Some women notice episodes of hiccups — which feel like a series of little rhythmic movements — a number of times a day, while other women only notice them once in a while.

Hiccupping is common in newborn babies, too, so after you give birth, don't be surprised if your little one hiccups occasionally.

You should go to BabyCenter.Com

Register your self to get weekly emails on how your baby is development, the everyday questions etc. It is the best website. I have it for both my children. So I can follow their growth & development.

Good Luck and Congratualtions!

Hiccups is a muscle spasm of the diaphram. It is perfectly normal young children are often more prone to them during growth sperts as well. When you get further along you will feel the hiccups. Are you worried something is wrong is that why you went to the ER? Understand you were made for having babies and your body is strong and able to support your little BOY good luck and congratulations. If you are still worried ask fo a bio physical profile which is just a really specific ultra sound then relax and enjoy your pregnancy baby wil be here before you know it.

I am 31 weeks along and I feel my son's hiccups several times a WEEK... I didn't remember feeling them so much with my first pregnancy.. My doctor says it is just because I am more "aware" of what he is doing this time around and it is completely normal.. She said he spends all day sucking and swallowing amniotic fluid.. so it is no surprise that he would have the hiccups so often.

First, Congratulations! I've been following your questions all thru your pregnancy and I am happy for you. Baby boys are wonderful. Hiccups are normal, just wait till you get about 7 months and you can start to feel him hiccuping inside of you. It's not bothering him at all, but once you start to feel it, it might get a little annoying for you.

Some people are more prone then other to hiccups, why wouldn't your baby be? My daughter had hiccups all the time when I was pregnant with her. It didn't seem to matter what I ate either.

It used to make me laugh...

Yes its normal.-its real fun when you get to be about 5 month along and can see and feel the baby getting hiccups. My last preg.(third) my son would get them all the time during the last trimester.(propbably had them earlier on like your baby-I just didnt feel them until last trimester) Oh it was so cute. Then it was annoying when you are trying to sleep or relax. My husband was amazed at how my whole stomach would shake when he had the hiccups-it was quit funny.

Congratulations! You have a perfectly healthy baby growing in there! Hiccups are completly normal - I actually enjoyed it when my 3 would get them because I new that they were alive. :) The only bad part is when they get them when you are trying to go to sleep, or when they have already turned and with each one they kick you in the ribs. Again congrats!

Oh yeah, and don't worry they do not bother the baby in or out of the womb as much as they do us. I loved when my son got the hiccups which was all the time :) Congratulations!!!

Fetal hiccups are very normal, however make sure your doctor is aware, because it comes from the flow in the cord. I never had them, but I had a friend who had the problem everyday and her baby came out healthy.

yes it's normal but I read in a book that it wasn't normal for the baby to have more the 4 a day... until we went to the doctors and he said it's normal for the baby to have 5-8 a day duration of 10 minutes he said the reason for this is because the baby was practicing breathing.

Don't worry - yes, it's perfectly normal. Sometimes you can even feel it! Wierd, huh? When you explain to your child about hiccups, you can tell him about when you could feel 'em. Just something to share with him as the two of you bond...

OHHHHH! That is the best feeling when you are pregnant. It is perfectly normal. When you start to fell the baby more, later on in during the pregnancy you will be able to distiguish exactly when the baby has the hicups. Your baby is very normal. GOOD LUCK little momma!
