Hi, I am 5 weeks pregnant, my period due date was 19th march and when i did a home pregnancy test, it is positive. But, I had a little bleeding in the morning and went to the doctor and they did an ultrasound scanning and said that there is no fetus found. Is it common? Planning to go to the blood test tomorrow. Can someone suggest whether this is common or i had a wrong result in home pregnancy test

This happend to me. 3 positive home pregnancy test and went to the doctor and no embryo and 4 negative test (3 urine and 1 blood). It was a chemical pregnancy. I had a miscarriage and didn't even know I was pregnant.

I hope everything works out for you. Prayers going up.

Sounds like you had a Chemical Pregnancy.. ((So sorry, I've been there.. its very common)

A chemical pregnancy is the clinical term used for a very early miscarriage. In many cases, the positive pregnancy test was achieved before the woman’s period was due but a miscarrige occured before a heartbeat was able to be seen on an ultrasound.

With the ultra sensitive pregnancy tests on the market today, it is easier than ever to get a positive result 3 or 4 days before your period is due. It is wonderful for those who NEED to know, but does have it’s down side. Early testing shows chemical pregnancies which would not have been detected had the woman waited for her period to arrive.

Chemical pregnancies are unfortunately very common. 50 to 60% of first pregnancies end in miscarriage very early in pregnancy. Most occur without the woman even knowing that she was pregnant.

What Causes a Chemical Pregnancy

Most chemical pregnancies are due to chromosomal problems in the developing fetus. Other possible causes are inadequate uterine lining, uterine abnormalities both congenital or acquired like fibroids, low hormone levels, luteal phase defect or certain infections.

Prayijg for you guys! & Good Luck!

Yes in some cases depending upon the length of your cycle and when you ovulated 5 weeks would be too early to see anything. I was in the same predicament as you. I took test after test and they all said positive, I went to the doctor and they did an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy and there was nothing see, no sac and no baby. They apologized and basically told me I miscarried. So I went to another doctor to get a second opinion and she said that 5 weeks was too early to see anything and if anything was seen that I would be lucky. So She did and blood test, results came back fine and did a vaginal ultrasound at 6 weeks and the sac was there, then another at 7 weeks and the baby was there. Don't worry or stress yourself hun, I know easier said than done but Im sure its just too early.

Pregnancy test was positive, so your pregnant. The question is how far along? You may have miscalculated and not be as far along as you thought therefore making the u/s a little harder to see your baby. I was told by my ob that seeing a baby that early in pregnancy is hard. Than again the earliest u/s i had was at 8 weeks. the bleeding may have been normal 1st trimester bleeding or a miscarriage. but then again if you miscarried there should have been alot of bleeding and cramping. The blood test is the only thing right now that can tell you for sure what is going on. Good luck to you. I pray all will be okay for you.

No fetus isn't always a negative thing. I went in when I was "6" weeks. Only saw a gestational sac. Turned out I was only 3 weeks and some change. I am now 19 weeks 2 days pregnancy with a healthy baby girl. Good luck

The same thing happened to me. They couldn't see anything & then thought it was an ectopic pregnancy or chemical pregnancy. I got the blood work done & my hCG levels were 86. I got so worried and started stressing. Two weeks later I got an ultrasound and they could finally see the baby (: Don't stress girl, everything will work out =] Keep your head up & pray (: I'm 14 weeks now & find out in 2 weeks the sex. Good luck girl, I'll keep you in my prayers & hope you have a happy & healthy 9 months!

Well, as far as the home prego test they usually don't tell you that your prego by mistake when they are broken or a dud its usually the other way around, they tell ur not then you are. But the bleeding and stuff, honestly I think you need to speak with a doctor cause this sounds like a small chance of an early miscarriage. I'm not a doctor so I don;'t want to be the person to give you such sad news, but your really need to speak with a doctor asap. I'm sorry, and I hope everything is okay!

HPT only tells you that the HCG hormone is present, but it does not tell you whether or not the pregnancy is viable or is developing correctly. That is what the blood test is for, since it is early, it is perhaps too little still to be seen or your conception date is wrong, that is why they have scheduled you for a blood test. If your HCG levels are low for your estimated conception date, then they will schedule a second (and sometimes a third) blood test to determine whether or not the levels are increasing like they are supposed to. If they are not, it is possible that it is not a viable pregnancy, perhaps they will schedule you for a second sonogram as well.

Good luck

If your period is a week late how do you work out you are 5 weeks pregnant ?

If you had a scan and there was no fetus then you are not pregnant. Get your blood test done to confirm.

Best of luck.
