Question:
Preeclampsia?
Waiting and Wishing

This may sound weird, and I probably should not be looking on the net so much...but here goes.
My ankles started to swell about a week ago (I'm 33 weeks). I know some swelling is normal, but it came on so fast it kinda worried me. My hands have been swollen, too, and once in a while my eyelids will swell a little in the morning when I wake up. The thing is, my BP is normal (as of last Friday) and no protein in my urine. I do get some flashy lights in my eyes sometimes but usually they go away and are pretty rare. I have gestational diabetes and even on the diet, I am gaining more weight that the recommended amount. Lastly, I'm peeing a lot less than I think I should be considering how much fluid I drink. I also get headaches and irritability, but usually I attribute them to high blood sugar.
Should I call the doctor? I have an appointment a week from tomorrow.

I had both gestiational diabetes & preeclampsia. preeclampsia has no "set" reason why it happens, but things like gaining a ton of weight (119 lbs), not taking prenatal vitamins, dieting etc.. I have heard about everything...

if your pressure is fine - your fine, you do NOT have it. My pressure was 215 over 130 when I was pregnant & was preeclampsic.

Swelling is a concern, so is seeing those "spots"... Those spots can also be attributed to decrease in blood sugar.

I wouldnt worry, I would definetly bring it up at your next doc appt.

What I did to help ease my mind when i was preeclampsic and petrified about going into eclampsic was to go out to walgreens and buy one of those bloodpressure machines. They're battery operated & fit on your arm. Now they are not exact, but take your pressure randomly during the day. call your doc if it is over 120 / 70 (normal bp)...

All pregnant women swell... And believe me there is a huge difference between preeclampsia swelling and normal swelling... Things to watch, your ankles become larger than your calves, you cannot fit your watch band over your hand... things like that...

But go buy the blood pressure machine it'll give you peace of mind & bring it up to your doc.

30 weeks here. BP slowly rising.

I would call the doctor if not for anything for peace of mind. You are 33 weeks some some swelling of ankles can happen, you sound like you take pretty good care of yourself with diet and all. Go to the drug store or wherever they have BP machine take it there. If you see a slight rise give your doctor a call and let him know what the numbers were.

I totally AGREE with you about stop looking on the net, I stopped looking BP stuff after I read too many bad things. I told my doctor I was self diagnosing, he wasnt too happy. Told me it probably didnt help my blood pressure due to stress. So even though Im not a doctor, I would stop reading all that stuff too.

I'm 39 weeks prego and my doc was concern that i have it too so he went ahead took my blood just make sure. I gained 8 lbs with in a week from last appointment and i had protein in my urine. But he was asking if my ankles were swollen, headaches,i said no. But i looked it up on the net and read that some women will only exp two of the symptoms so i would call your doc rather be safe then sorry.

It's not going to hurt to be checked out. I'm three weeks behind you and my feet and ankles have been swelling for a couple of weeks already. If your BP and protein levels are normal, and your face isn't swelling, it's probably ok, but preeclampsia is nasty enough that I'd rather be safe than sorry.

your problems are most likely related to diabetes changes in blood sugar
