I was wondering what I can do to get the ball rolling.I am 36 weeks pregnant and I am dialated only to 1 cm and at plus 2. I believe baby has dropped more from what I can SEE. The contractions however are really bothering me and I can barely get good sleep anymore. I've tried sex and walking and spicy foods... I don't want to try anything medicinal but I'm just miserable. Is there anything I can do to make labor come on? Or at least help me progress some more. This is baby number three for me and I have never been so miserable in pregnancy.

No matter what you read here, do not take anything orally or put anything into your body. The baby will come when ready. Trust me, I've been there. 3rd pregnancy I gained 68 pounds (baby weighed 9), I was absolutely miserable- couldn't walk 50 feet without sharp pains, stayed dilated 3 cm my whole last month, and went 2 weeks over to boot. I'm telling you, walking is the best and only truly safe thing, but it still will not matter, if baby is not ready. I know you are uncomfortable, I remember it well. Hang in there, and just remember, it will be all worth the misery in the end.

Try to last to 38 weeks, which is considered full term. If your doctor thinks the baby is that big, ask to be induced at 38 weeks, but don't try to have your baby preterm. Other than the walking, there is nothing else you can do. The baby will come when he or she is ready. Doctors usually have no problem inducing at 38 weeks, expecially for a 3 time mother.

I don't think that being miserable justifies going out of your way to go into labor, nevermind that it makes you sound really selfish. Your question sounds to me like "I don't care what affects the health of my baby, I just want it over with."

The best thing for your baby is just to let him come naturally. If and when the doctor is comfortable with inducing you then that is a different story.

We all get miserable in pregnancy but most of us deal with it like big girls. Guess maybe you shoulda thought about how you might feel in your last trimester before you decided to concieve, especially being that you have been pregnant 2 other times???

If you don't want to hear about "preaching" maybe you shouldn't be asking questions that make you sound selfish and childish because you are to "miserable" to do what is best for your baby.

I am so sorry, I know how uncomfortable the last few weeks are. You really should wait though, because even though at 36 weeks most babies have mature lungs, some do not and require oxygen at birth. You're almost done though, so just try to be patient. Good luck though.

I am not to sure on how to help you with making labor come on but what i can tell you is that i had my daughter at 36 weeks and the docs was not worried about it or anything and she was healthy and still is very healthy..

After having a premature baby, I can say that as uncomfortable as you are while you are pregnant, you will be more uncomfortable if your baby is born before she is ready and has health problems. Every day inside is really imoprtant for the baby's development. Be patient, it is all worth it in the end.

In one of my pregnancy magazines, they said that nipple stimulation will produce oxytocin which causes the uterus to contract... Thus, hopefully labor!

You only have a couple of weeks, you'll be fine!

Walking up and down the stairs really helped me. I had all three of my children at 371/2 weeks exactly. No lie!!!!!!!!!!!

I hear Castor oil works. My best friend used it with her second child and she said it worked great! Pour some in orange juice (try the recommended dosage on the bottle) and drink it.
