Why can you not skip a day yet you stop taking them for the fourth week?? Does that mean its not effective until a week of active pills? Also what if I delay my period by taking two packs of active pills in a row... Will that make them less effective?

You should not skip a day because todays OCs are a lower dose than the ones in the past. If you miss a dose, take that dose and the correct dose for the next day just like the package insert suggests. When you take the pill it helps suppress ovulation and keeps the cervical mucus thick. If you miss the dose, either of those things can permit the opportunity for an egg to be produced and for the cervical mucus to thin to the point to permit sperm to go into the uterus. The last week is usually a placebo because in theory, your ovulation should have happened and your cervical mucus should have thickened up naturally. Also it tells your body that your not pregnant, so you have your period.

The unique thing is that as the dose gets lower for OCs, you can get a form where the dose the same all of the time. This type of OC like Lybrel, can suppress your period until you choose to have it again. Others like Yaz can suppress your period for 90 days. That could be something to consider if your period would get in the way of your life.

the level of hormones vary week to week, so in order to keep the levels where they should be, you have to take them in the right order every day until the end of the pack, the week off is for your period, you are still covered, taking two packs back to back does not make them less effective but you should really talk to your doctor about all this

You stop taking them the fourth week so your period can come and stay regular. You won't delay your period by taking 2 packs. However it may become irregular.

by way of fact beginning administration would not defend you from STDs. basically a condom can try this. it incredibly is large that your gf is on beginning administration, as you're suitable approximately it being simpler against being pregnant. besides the undeniable fact that oral beginning administration and different contraceptives, such by way of fact the beginning administration jewelry and pictures, do no longer defend you or her from STDs. Pulling out/retreating (despite you want to call it) is likewise for the prevention of being pregnant, no longer STDs. the only time it incredibly is risk-free to no longer use condoms is whilst the two one in all you're monogamous and the two one in all you have at the instant been checked for STDs and HIV/AIDS, and had detrimental consequences of course. whether you already know you and your significant different have been monogamous, you will desire to the two be examined each and every 6 months just to be sure. keep in mind which you do no longer would desire to have intercourse to get HIV/AIDS, and the final element you want to do is supply your significant different an STD.
